Goal: one clear action02Design it
Put your name on a concept and design the look yourself.
Change the colours, type, corners, buttons and layout and the preview updates as you go. It is a quick sketch to react to, not your finished design. One click adds the look to your project brief.
1Content
Leave any of these blank to keep the sample words. Your name and business from the brief fill in here too.

03Your current site
Already have a website? See what it could do better.
Run the two-minute self-check for a score and a fix list for your brief, then drag the slider to see what a redesign changes.
Checked in your browser from the address alone: secure connection and own domain. Nothing is fetched or sent.
Your score
0 of 7
Tick the boxes that are true for your site.
This is a quick self-check, not an audit. Nothing you tick leaves your browser.
What a redesign changes
Same business, same content. The difference is hierarchy, type, spacing and one clear action per screen.
Drag the handle, or focus it and use the arrow keys. Illustrative example, not a client's real site.

06About
One designer, from first sketch to launch.
I design websites that are quick to load, easy to use and clear about what to do next.
I'm Colby Brown, the freelance web designer behind Leaflume. I also build what I design. You work with me directly, so decisions are quick and nothing gets lost between a designer and a developer.
I take on a small number of projects at a time so each one gets proper attention. I explain my choices in plain language, agree the scope and price before starting, and leave you able to update your site yourself.
07Questions
Things people ask before they hire a designer.
Something not covered here? Ask it in your brief. Below the answers are three short guides that help whether or not we work together.
How long does a project take?
Most sites take three to four weeks from our first call to launch, depending on how quickly you can send content and feedback.
What if I do not have my text or photos ready?
That is fine, most people do not. Describe the business in your own words on the contact form and I shape the text with you, and suggest what to photograph. If you already have brand files or photos, attach them to your brief.
Will my site work on phones and every other device?
Yes. Every site is designed phone-first and tested on phones, tablets, laptops and desktop screens, in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. Most visitors arrive on a phone, so that is where I start.
Will my site be fast and accessible?
Yes. I build to Google's Core Web Vitals targets (largest paint under 2.5s, interaction under 200ms, layout shift under 0.1) and test with a keyboard and screen reader.
What does the $40 care and hosting plan include?
Fast, secure hosting, software and security updates, regular backups and small text and photo changes, for $40 a month. It is optional and you can cancel anytime. If you skip it, I hand over all your files so you can host the site anywhere.
Can I edit the site myself afterwards?
Yes for text and photos: I show you where each one lives and record a short walkthrough, and I stay on call for 14 days after launch. Small changes later are covered by the care plan. Bigger changes are quoted before I start.
What if I only need a redesign?
That works well. I keep the content and search rankings that already work, and replace the structure, type and layout.
Are there any extra fees?
No hidden ones. The $500 covers the design, the build, your professional domain for the first year and launch. The only other costs are optional: care and hosting at $40 a month, and any add-ons you choose, which are quoted exactly before work starts. After the first year the domain renews at the registrar's normal yearly price, and you'll know that date from day one.
How does payment work?
The price is $500, fixed. Half ($250) starts the project and the other half is due at launch. You get the scope in writing after our first call.
Short guides for anyone about to commission a website.
Guide 1What a homepage should say before anyone scrolls
Most visitors decide within seconds whether a site is for them. The first screen has four jobs:
- Say what you do in plain words. "Family dentist" beats a clever slogan.
- Say who it is for.
- Offer one clear next step, such as "Book a visit" or "Get a quote".
- Give a reason to trust you: a price, a real photo, a real review or a promise you keep.
Test it by showing the page to someone for five seconds. If they cannot say what it is and what to do next, the first screen needs work.
Guide 2How to judge a website quote
A fair quote makes the usual surprises obvious. Ask for these in writing:
- What is included: pages, rounds of revisions, and what counts as a revision.
- Who owns the site, the content and the domain when it is finished.
- What it costs after launch: hosting, domain renewal and updates.
- When each payment is due and what it covers.
- What happens when you want something outside the scope.
If an answer is vague, the price is not really a price yet.
Guide 3How to check your own site's speed in five minutes
- Open your site on your phone using mobile data, not Wi-Fi. Note how long it takes before you can read the headline.
- Run it through Google PageSpeed Insights and look at Largest Contentful Paint. Google rates 2.5 seconds or less as good.
- Check your biggest images. Photos straight from a phone can be several megabytes each.
- Count the extras. Chat widgets, trackers and sliders each add weight.
The targets: the main content appears in 2.5 seconds or less, taps respond within 200 milliseconds, and nothing jumps around while loading (layout shift under 0.1).
